10 month stats

Because A was so thin at his 9 month appointment, the doctor asked us to come back at 10 months to check in before she sent us for bloodwork.

He is 27.17 inches long (they measure in centimeters, which explains the strange decimal), 16.84 pounds (that's almost 2 pounds in a month!), and his head circumference is 17.71 inches.

Hooray, he's back on track! It looks like he is back on the growth charts as well.

AND, our old pediatrician's crappy office staff FINALLY (yes, it took them FOUR MONTHS) faxed over A's records.

10 month pictures coming soon; we tried to take them last night after bath, but all A wanted to do was suck on his bottle. I got some very cute pictures of him cuddling with the Tempurpedic bear, but no good 10 month pictures.

DUNK.

Last week at swimming, I dunked A! I only put him in up to his eyebrows, and he didn't seem TOO traumatized. Today, however, I dunked him ALL the way and it was met with crying. It was like watching in slow mo... I KNEW he was going to freak from the look on his face, and then he crumpled his face up, and finally he let loose. Luckily, the instructor does the dunking right at the end of class and just before handing out toys... so the crying didn't go past one scream. A got a ducky and all was right with the world.

Awwww

Last night around 6, M was feeding A.

I VERY CLEARLY heard "Daddy"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His voice sounded a bit different when he did it too, almost like it was a REAL WORD! I don't know if it was or not, but he did it!

SHAKE IT!

We were over Girlfriend's house the other day, and A was fascinated by her egg shaker. I went online to see if I could find them for a good price, and the best I found was $1.99 an egg. I was telling MH about it and I said, "I could make something like that." We dug out the Easter eggs we got from the dollar store, put in some rice we can't eat anyway (I've been using it as pie weights), and taped the egg shut.

He loves it!

Bathtime

I had some fun the other night taking some bath pictures. Of course, until I noticed something floating in the tub through the viewfinder that was most definitely not one of A's toys. I digress.

Here's the picutures!

This is what happens when A can hear Daddy in the bedroom during bathtime... he looks to see him. It's very cute. I've been saying, "If you want your daddy, you have to call him. Say 'Daddy!'" He sometimes does respond with a Da Da.

I was looking at M's phone the other day when I discovered he had taken this picture one day at the park.

Growing up

Taking a page from Best Bud's Mom's blog...

With Baby Girl A coming along, we've passed on a lot of infant stuff. We sent away the two pack and plays (although we picked up another one! YAY free stuff!), the snap n go stroller, the bouncey seat, the exersaucer, the swing, and a bin full of clothing (since A's gender was a surprise, we had lots of gender neutral stuff).

In the hopes that A would once again play with the jumperoo, we held onto it. Alas, I tried to put him in it today, and as soon as tushie met seat, hysterics ensued. Hopefully Baby Girl A will play in it longer than our A did!

In addition, I've had to pack away a lot of clothing. Not only is the season change a cause for this, but also size is an issue! Although A still fits into his 6 month clothing with large head openings, he doesn't fit into most of it because of his noggin. Luckily, Baby Girl A will have no younger siblings, so we received all her big brother's clothes... for the most part, his stuff will work for us seasonally, so we should be pretty good AND not have to buy many clothes! Yippie!

Mother's Day

Our Mother's Day festivities took us to Grammi and Grampy's house to see them, Mom Mom, and Olivia. We also had some other visitors, and here's our day in photos....well, some of our day--this is taking too darn long. I'll add more later.

New pictures

We went for family photos yesterday; it was my Mother's Day gift from my boys. This time around, the slide show came QUICKLY! A really loved playing with those blocks, so now I'm on a block quest!

We went for family photos yesterday. This time around, the slide show came QUICKLY!

Clap, clap! Clap your hands!

A doesn't clap. Despite seeing Best Bud and Prom Date do it for quite some time now, he just wasn't interested.

Yesterday, he was playing with his Fisher Price stage thingy and (admittedly) my attention was elsewhere. All of the sudden, I heard A hitting something only to discover he was clapping! I only caught it for a second, but it was super cute. Ironically, he was doing it as the toy sang "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!"

He is all about waving these days. If M is driving and I turn around to look at A in the mirror, he waves at me. I think he's getting that he's supposed to wave back at people when they wave at him, but that's a slow process.

This morning, I could have sworn I heard A say something that sounded like "kitty cat" when we said good morning to Catcher. He is VERY aware of the cats. A long time ago, we discovered that Mitten comes when we whistle the Whoo Whoo song (click here) and now Catcher does too. I started whistling that this morning, and A started looking down at the floor to see where the cats were.

I've always done this shimmy thing toward A's face, which always brings a smile. I thought he was doing that in return, but M noticed he does it when he likes the music or when his food is very good. My boy is dancing!!!

Silly Boy, Silly Mommy

We were at the mall with Best Bud and his mom on a recent rainy day. We went into Gymboree, in which, of course, neither of us can afford to do much but drool. Anyway, the boys had fun sitting (or climbing, as the case might be) on the chairs, and A tried on a funny hat with ears.

Thanks, Best Bud's mom, for the pictures!

Welcome to the world, Baby Girl A!

G and N had their baby today. She was born at 8:57am, weighed 6lbs 15 oz, and was 18.75 long. Mommy was in labor for about 2 hours, and only pushed for 15 minutes--lucky lady! Everyone is doing well, and MY Baby A looked ENORMOUS next to her! He was very interested in the baby when we held her up to him.

Although A was never as small as Baby Girl A, I can't believe how far he's come in only 9.5 months! He went from absolutely helpless to the little man he is now.

And for the record, N said that every time she sees A, he's cuter than the last time. As if we didn't already know, but we're in for some big trouble!!

Food

After the visit in which I was told that A hadn't gained weight in three months, I went to the internet looking for finger food ideas.

A has tried a lot of new foods as a result; things that never would have occurred to me.
He's had:

  • mini waffles (LOVES THEM!)
  • frozen pita (in lieu of the famous frozen bagel for teething)
  • Raspberries
  • Peaches
  • Chicken
  • A potato chip off the floor
  • A french fry
  • Fresh string beans
  • Macaroni
  • Cottage cheese (from a spoon, not finger foods)
  • Pasta, with olive oil
We often just give him food off our own plates, such as last night's fra diavolo (which I sucked all the gunk off first, but I'm sure there was still some kick to it).

Our scale is crap, but he FEELS heavier to us... hopefully a good sign. Either way, we'll know on May 30 how much he's gained in a month of lots of eating!

Screeching.

My son has learned to screech when he is displeased. It often comes when I'm trying to change a diaper on the floor (because, DUH MOMMY, being on the floor means crawling away).

Right now, it's endearing. After a week or so, it probably will not be.

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a wonderful Mother's Day around here; I couldn't have asked for a better day for my first one.

So in honor of the day, here are all the Mother figures in A's life!

A tooth!

A's tooth popped through this weekend. I think I first noticed something white poking out on Friday, and M saw t on Saturday. It is VERY sharp, but doesn't seem to be causing A any problems.

It's his lower right tooth!

Sniffle.

I just looked through all 600 or so pictures on A's shutterfly page. I can't believe what a chub he used to be and how thin he is now. I also can't believe how much he's changed yet how much he's stayed the same.

A still has a lot of hair, but it is much closer to brown than black. He still has Daddy's baggy eyes and Mommy's puffy cheeks. But he's looking more like a boy and less like a baby!! SNIFFLE!!

Silly me.

I thought my great grandmother had a lot of kids. It is logical that she would being that they lived on a farm and needed the hands. She had a baby about every two years, and in the days before epidurals (God's gift to women, btw)... and when were C sections started?

But Nona ain't got nothin on these nutters... Yep, I'm a judgmental PITA, but holy crap. This woman is pregnant again. I do believe someone needs to call up her local Catholic Church and learn about NFP.

Grammi's Right!

I forgot to mention that I saw a little white point on A's gum the other night when I was bathing him. I tried to show M, who seemed to indicate that I am crazy once again. I saw it yesterday, too. He won't let me get a good look, as you might imagine, and I can't feel anything sharp with my finger, but it's definitely bumpier than it used to be.

I still can't believe it's taken this long for him to sprout something. At four months old, he was sort of drooly, but now doesn't really drool all that much. He doesn't complain, and we rarely put Orajel on him. Very strange!
